Last Friday, I curled my hair before work in a burst of morning energy before the weekend. I walked into the office with curls that weren't quite ringlets, but weren't quite waves and everyone was asking how I did it. Here's my trick: A wand! I've never been able to master a traditional curling iron. I always end up with funny-looking kinks left behind by the metal clamp. A wand changed that for me. A few quick tips:
1) Make sure your hair is completely dry after showering before curling your hair with a wand. I use a styling product for body, then blow it dry—very dry. I find that if my hair is even the slightest bit damp, curls fall flat and don't hold their shape.
2) With a wand, use the glove (one typically comes included when you buy it). It's the only way to avoid burning your fingers! Once you get more comfortable with the technique, you may be able to skip this step, but you have to be very careful. It's tricky!
3) A curling wand makes it easy to curl hair in the direction you want it to go in. There's something very intuitive about it—you just wind it around the wand one way or the other and curls fall naturally into place.
One caveat: I'm still a work in progress with this. It's taken a lot of trial and error! There are days when my hair cooperates—and days when it absolutely doesn't. ;)
Do you have any quick tricks for easy curls?
PS: My coworker said that she swears by hot rollers for gorgeous waves. I am so intrigued! I want to try that technique next. :)

Bordeaux-colored nails
After weeks of trial and error at my local nail salon, I've finally found a shade that's not too red, not too brown: Lacy not Racy by Essie. It's just right.
Do you have a favorite nail color this time of year?

A red (or pink) lipstick trick
Come the holidays, I always want to be a bit more bold and wear a bright red (or pink) lipstick. It feels so festive and glam! The problem: 'Tis the season for dry, flakey lips thanks to the plummeting winter temps.
Here's the solution: A lip conditioner! After I use my Fresh Sugar Lip Polish (30 seconds, then wash off with a warm damp cloth), I apply this Peppermint Balm from Beauty Counter. It is life changing! Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and go about your morning routine. Then, once it is mostly absorbed, apply your favorite red or pink shade. Done!
Do you experiment with bright lipsticks during the holidays?

Happy Friday, my dearest readers! What do you have planned for the weekend? I am SO excited to say that I am getting a haircut. I can't tell you how overdue I am. Will try to post a pic next week of my new 'do. :) Wishing you a wonderful Saturday-Sunday ahead. Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

The best mascara ever
This. mascara. is. amazing.
It doesn't clump, it doesn't get dried out, it doesn't flake midway through the day. It provides definition (my lashes are blond, so this is very important) and lengthens, too. I've actually never had so much fun putting mascara on.
Have you ever tried it? What's a dream beauty product you can't live without?

Pretty in purple
Do you have a go-to summer nail polish? I keep going back to an Essie color I discovered last year, called "Under Where?" It's a soft, orchid-like purple, and with two coats, it goes on opaque, but still nice and light. It's also one of those colors where you don't notice polish chips as easily, something that makes it easier to extend the length of time between manicures—an ideal situation for summer. Anyways, I love it so much, I'm still wearing it a full year (and a few months) after it first came out!
How about you? What color do you paint your nails during the summer?
PS: Another nail polish trend.

A small brim sun hat
What do you wear to protect your scalp from the sun? I have a big, floppy straw sun hat that I love, but for plane travel, it's a challenge to pack it without crushing it's shape. (Although I did find an awesome tip that you can stick it inside your suitcase and stuff all your socks into the cap to prevent it from getting damaged.)
As an alternative, I'm considering the small brimmed sun hat above from San Diego Hat Company. It seems so low maintenance and easy—I just need something to wear so that I don't get sunburned!
What do you think? Do you have any tips for shielding your scalp from the sun?

White nail polish
What do you think about white nail polish? I think it's going to be my color choice for my next manicure—but I'm not sure. I'm so pale! I can't tell if will work with my skin tone, but I think it's so pretty for spring.
According to this, I should opt for a matte or pearl shade to best compliment my skin. I love this polish from Essie or this one from Deborah Lippman.
So, do or don't? Would you try this trend?

A must-do eye trick
Last weekend, I popped into Caudalie for their 25-minute express facial. It's such a great treatment! I love that in under a half hour, I can leave with my skin polished and refreshed.
I also learned something new: Eye cream is a must! My aesthetician explained how the area around your eyelids is the weakest spot on your face, and easily damaged by harmful rays from the sun. She recommended a mini-eye massage morning and night with Caudalie's eye and lip cream to instantly brighten, moisturize and remove signs of fatigue.
Sure, it's a preventative step, but it's also a relaxing way to start and end each day, don't you think? :)

Navy nail polish
I originally chose this polish to match the dress I wore to this wedding, but with fall in full swing, Essie's After School Boy Blazer has become my go-to shade. There's something about navy nails—they feel so bold and dramatic. :)

The weekend is here!
Happy November, my darling readers! What do you have planned for the weekend? I'm excited to get a haircut—I'm so long overdue. Right now, the plan is to get another bob; as much as I want to grow my hair out, short hair seems to suit me best. Wishing you a terrific weekend ahead. Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
Puppy cam!!
Cutie booties.
Washi tape phone chargers.
Quince ginger sorbet.

Jacoby to the tune of Benny Hill.
Dogs on parade.
That awkward moment when you wear the same outfit.
Purple leopard.
Jennifer Garner rocks a faux beard.
Freeze-frame, Friends-style.

The prettiest fall polish
How often do you switch up your nail polish color when you go and get a manicure? I prefer to pick a new color every season, switching shades of polish at the same time I rotate the clothes in my closet. :) Don't get me wrong—I love variety and trying new things, but I like having a go-to nail color at the ready. Enter Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Orange Fizz. It's subtle, classic, and gorgeous. In the past, I've opted for darker shades (like this or this), but this pink and orange blend seems like the perfect way to seamlessly transition from summer to fall.
What do you think? Do you have a favorite fall nail color yet?

The weekend is here!
My lovely readers, happy Friday! What are your plans for the weekend? I hope something relaxing and fun. I'm excited to finally be getting a haircut. I am so long overdue. The delay is because I never can decide if I want a bob, or if I want to grow my hair out. Then, the NYC heat arrives and my decision is easy: short! :) I'll try to Instagram some pics from the salon. In the meantime, wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead. Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

Tomato-scented perfume
Do you have a signature spring/summer scent? I'm pretty consistent with my fragrance, but I'm intrigued by this tomato-scented perfume from the Demeter Fragrance Library. (It comes in green tomato, too!). I love the smell of freshly picked tomatoes—the idea of bottling it up in a jar seems too good to be true. What do you think?

The weekend is here!
What's on tap for your weekend? I still have so much unpacking to do. But I am going to treat myself: I'm getting my hair cut and colored at a new salon (as long as the snow doesn't get in the way). After spending so much time packing and unpacking, I'm ready for a me-time splurge! :) What do you have planned for your weekend off? Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

Lipstick Trend: Bold and Bright
Have you done much experimenting this season with colorful lips? A couple of weeks ago, I decided to try the trend: hot pink lipstick for my night out on the town. My shade of choice? Bungalow Pink
from the Michael Kors for Estée Lauder collection. I must admit, it was
a bit of a challenge to wear! I loved the feel of the initial
application — the bright color definitely went on smooth. But
maintaining the crispness all night through dinner and drinks was tough.
I re-applied twice, but the damage was done: I had to scrub, scrub,
scrub before going to sleep just to get it off.
For those of you that go bold with your lip color, any tips? Would love any (and all) advice you can share!

Lady Like by Essie
Last night, a manicure seemed to be the only cure to what had previously been a very long day! Do you ever feel like you can't type fast enough when it comes to keeping up with emails, texting and work? My secret solution seems to be a fresh coat of polish. I always feel more put together when my nails are done! I'm happy to report that I've discovered my go-to nail color for fall. Lady Like by Essie is soft and pale, a neutral hue that still provides a subtle pop of a purple-y pink. What do you think? Do you like this shade? If not, what fall color are you planning to wear?
Check out last year's fall color here.

Makeup tricks for the subway
I'm curious — have you ever attempted to do your makeup on the subway? Yesterday morning, I was en route to work when a fellow passenger on the N train started to quickly (and efficiently) put her face on. I stared at her in complete awe of her talent — from her steady hand to her technique, I was beyond impressed. She even broke out her eyelash curler to curl her lashes while the train bounced all over the tracks. Do you ever do your makeup for work on the train? If so, what's your secret to getting it right?

Graphite nail polish
This fall, will you rock dark and silvery polish on your nails? Get a jump start on testing out this trend by picking up Chanel's Le Vernis Nail Colour in Graphite, available this month. I love the consistency of this shade — it goes on smooth and appears on your nails exactly how it looks in the bottle. Plus, the sparkles! What a great way to add style and flair to your look.

Interview with Aerin Lauder
For the April issue of New York Resident, I had the chance to speak with Aerin Lauder — granddaughter of Estée — about the brand's new spring line, and what she loves most about summer in New York. In addition, check out June Jacobs' homage to Central Park. Her three in one lip treatment, called A Kiss in the Park, is the perfect mini-facial for your lips. Read about both of these things in the April issue of New York Resident, available now!
