The weekend is here!

Happy weekend, dear readers! How is it already the end of June? I'm off to Connecticut for wedding #2. I'm a bridesmaid in this one, which has been a lot of fun. The photo above is of my friends and I in the Meatpacking District for the bachelorette. Such a great New York City shot, don't you think? I will try to post photos from the wedding next week (sneak peek: I'm thinking of wearing this to the rehearsal dinner. What do you think?). I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing weekend ahead. Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

Hello, world.

Sweet wedding.

Love me some lobsters.

Gotta dance!

Ever since second grade when I first saw Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor tap dance to Moses Supposes in Singin' in the Rain, I've been a sucker for this impressive art form. Based on this, you can only imagine my delight when, while reading in Washington Square Park over the weekend, a couple of exceptionally talented kids set up at the bench closest to me and decided to show off their skills. You have to watch the video all the way through to see just how good they are. It's moments like these that make me love New York even more!

In her (summer) shoes

Come summer, I dedicate a special slush fund to biweekly manicures and pedicures. After all, fashion this time of year is all about how you choose to decorate your hands and feet! Case in point: the snaps taken from Instagram above. Not only do I want her shoes, I want a list of the nail polish shades she perfectly pairs with each look.

Do you have a staple summer shoe? What about a signature polish?

Remember Kate Middleton's summer shoe?

Retro day at the beach

Now that summer has officially arrived, I can't stop thinking about the beach! The images above capture the joy, the fun, and the carefree relaxation of being in the sun and sand.

This weekend — en route to wedding #2 — I'll be driving through Mystic, Connecticut. I'm going to do everything I can to find a spare hour or two to stop and dip my toes in the ocean surf.

Do you have any beach vacations planned this summer? Even a day trip counts!

TV Page: New Girl

Is anyone else watching New Girl? I know, I know — the show's finale was many weeks ago, but thanks to Hulu Plus, I'm just diving into the first season now. The first couple of episodes had a wobbly start, but I'm now totally addicted. Zooey Deschanel and her supporting cast, including, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris, are charming, and fun. Right now, it's actually one of the few shows that makes me laugh out loud.

What are your thoughts on the show? Are you planning to tune in for season two?

The weekend is here!

Happy weekend, dear readers! What do you have planned? It's Matt's birthday(!) and I have lots of surprises planned. But before all that, I'm hoping to catch Safety Not Guaranteed starring Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation. Have you seen it? I know it's been out a few weeks already. I'm behind on movies, as you can see. Wishing each of you a wonderful weekend ahead. Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

In Mad Men withdrawal already.

Be you.

Sketching New York

I was on Pinterest recently and came across these gorgeous (and detailed!) sketches from California-based artist Suhita. She visited New York with her family last year, and documented every moment in pen, ink and watercolor. The result? Breathtaking snapshots of city life. I love how she captures the movement of the city with accuracy and energy all at once.

What do you think? Does she get New York City right?

A toast to summer!

Happy first day of summer, my dear readers! What's on your wish list for the next three months? This week's already getting steamy in NYC, a surefire sign that summer has arrived!

I'm looking forward to outdoor movies, evening walks on the High Line, and Amy Adams doing Shakespeare in the Park.

Now you go: what's on your list? :)

Weekend Update: Governor's Island

As I mentioned Friday, Matt and I took the ferry out to Governor's Island to have a mini-picnic, get some sun, and kick back. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was a breezy 80 degrees — the perfect day to rent bikes and explore. :) My favorite part of "Picnic Point" (the official name for the park on the island) is the variety of red hammocks sprinkled throughout. You can literally put your feet up and relax!

Have you been to Governor's Island before? What did you do while you were there?

Spatial relations

Last week, I read this fantastic interview with Kate Arends, the woman behind Wit & Delight, a must-read blog of mine. She talks about how the kitchen is her favorite space in her home to play. She says: "It's small, but works great for culinary adventures. Many messes and memories have been made there."

This got me thinking about favorite spaces in my life. In college (a campus I used to consider home), there was this amazing balcony that overlooked the whole student union, and the only people who had access to it were those who worked for the newspaper and the Student Government Association. I used to spend hours sitting there, editing, and people-watching, too. It was a true comfort zone for creativity — a place where I could center my thoughts, and take in the view, too.

What about you — do you have a room, space, or place that makes you feel at home?

The weekend is here!

Yes —  the weekend! What do you have planned for the next couple of days off? Matt and I are actually planning an excursion to Governor's Island. Not for the Jazz Fest like last year, but to pack a picnic and explore. The weather is supposed to be perfect, so bring on the vitamin D! :) Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

Do dishes, and look good, too.

Structured balloons.

Cheers to girls who read!

My perfect weekend.

Puppy cam!

More English style, please.

World view

A world map as art — what do you think? When I first stumbled upon this idea, I couldn't believe the range of options (and color schemes) that open up just by hanging the world on your walls. If this was on display in my home, I know I’d spend all day dreaming about the many places I want to go. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, right?

What do you think? Would you try this design idea?

I thought I’d post this hilarious picture of Steve Martin. Because today is just one of those days! :)

Cute couple alert

Did anyone watch the Tony Awards over the weekend? My vote for the most adorable and stylish couple goes to Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. Seriously, could they be any cuter?! :)

Scenes from the beach

I thought we all could use a bit of sunshine to help ease us into the week! These are a few shots that I took out in the North Fork of Long Island a couple of weeks ago. This secluded beach was the perfect spot to relax in the sand, and go for a quick dip, too. My friends and I had a picnic brunch before laying out our towels and taking in the view. The only downside? Having to leave! ;)

The weekend is here!

Happy weekend! Rumor has it the sun is supposed to shine in New York. Such amazing news. :) I'm excited to toast my friend Barb's upcoming wedding with bachelorette festivities and more. She says 'I do' in just a few short weeks! I'm in the wedding party for this one, and I've been working hard to come up with ideas to make it as special as I can. Any suggestions? Would love to hear your thoughts. In the meantime, wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead! Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

Paris in a box

This week, I've got Paris on the brain! Maybe it's because we're starting to finalize our itinerary for our trip this fall. Regardless of the reason, I love the idea of wrapping the magic of the city up in a box. Every item that's included is so unique! From Paris versus New York (a book I recently bought) to the Eiffel Tower stamp and French macarons. Wouldn't this make the best gift for someone re-locating to Paris? Better yet, you could come up with similar boxes for different places. Definitely a memorable way to say bon voyage!

Dance party

Such great words of wisdom from NYC Taught Me — she suggests that every piece of clothing you wear should make you want to do a little dance. I agree! It's such a good mantra to live by. I constantly feel like the outfit I wear has the ability to shape my day. If I'm comfortable in the clothes I pick out, everything else falls into place. If I'm not, I'm more fidgety, and less focused. Do you agree?

Now, tell me — what do you wear (a dress, a skirt, a headband) that puts an extra bounce in your step? :)

How To: Beat the Rain

This week's forecast in New York is rain, rain, rain. Yes, it's tempting to wear sweats to work, but there have to be other survival tactics for this June gloom! When it starts to pour, why not duck inside a café and grab a hot tea or coffee with a friend? Better yet, opt for a sunny umbrella. Or a cute spring dress paired with a cozy sweater (and a pop of pink lipstick, too!).

What are your tips for perking up in the rain?

More rain here and here and here and here. (Plus: Rainy day optimism.)

All Hail the Queen!

A toast to the Queen! It looks like it was such a magical weekend celebrating the Diamond Jubilee River Pageant along the Thames. I love the pomp and circumstance of it all, not to mention Kate's gorgeous Alexander McQueen ensemble.

Did you watch? Did you see the hilarious souvenirs? (Here's one that's more tasteful.)

The weekend is here!

Happy Friday! This short week flew by. This weekend, I'm Hamptons-bound to celebrate my friend's last summer as a single girl! Her wedding in Ireland is fast approaching this fall. :) I'm looking forward to a bit of wine tasting, and time at the beach, too. What do you have planned? Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:

Birthday wishes for the Golden Gate.

A mouth-watering summer salad.

Air mail nostalgia.

The perfect graduation card. (And love this one for bdays.)

A tranquil moment.

30th a la Alice.

Long live the Queen! (Plus: A clever gift and Royalty in Vogue.)

Signs of summer

A tune for June.
