'The Imperfectionists' by Tom Rachman
I'm curious — what book are you reading right now? I'm almost to the end of Tom Rachman's The Imperfectionists, and think it's quite possibly one of the best books I've ever read. A first-time novelist, Rachman writes what appear to be a series of short stories, all set within the newspaper industry during its rise and fall. But read only a few chapters in and you'll realize the crux of Rachman's genius — each character is somehow intertwined with the next, all coming together to form various members of a newsroom staff that's as fascinating as it is flawed. Anyways, the book is great — in fact, it's so good that Brad Pitt already optioned the rights to make it into a film. Okay, so now you're up: what book do you recommend?

ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Julia Child's _My Life in France_. I would definitely recommend it to any epicureans or travelistas.
I also have bookmarks in several other books, including _Wilderness Warrior_, a biography of Teddy Roosevelt. It's amazingly well-researched, but I have to say the inordinate number of typos can sometimes be distracting. Overall, a fascinating look at Roosevelt's great environmental accomplishments. He was quite an interesting and inspirational guy. I'd love to accomplish one percent of what he did in his years.
I would love to read Julia Child's book — what a great recommendation!
ReplyDeleteAlso, that's crazy that there would be that many typos in a biography about Teddy Roosevelt. I agree that he is quite a fascinating man. I took so many U.S. History courses at Wheaton and he was one of my favorite people to discuss.
