Running at night

With summer winding down, I've been feeling a bit panicked about not taking enough advantage of living close to Brooklyn Bridge Park. So, I've started a pattern of evening runs after work. In a perfect world, I'd be a morning person who gets out at dawn to pound the pavement first thing. But there's something so lovely and peaceful about running at night—especially with the twinkling New York City skyline as your backdrop. I'm telling you, if you cue up the right song (truthfully, I've been working out to this soundtrack a lot) and pair it with this view, it's quite empowering at the end of a long day.

Do you run outside? Is there a view you look forward to along the way? Would love to hear about it!

A winter walk

My devoted readers know: Brooklyn Bridge Park is my favorite spot in my new neighborhood, snow or not. Over the weekend, Matt and I decided to go for a quick hike and test out the new SLR camera(!) I got for my birthday. Nothing beats a winter sunset in New York. My toes were icicles by the time we made it up to Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar (the spot we chose to warm up), but it was completely worth the walk. A bonus: We got to check out the newest section of the park!

We learned something, too—the park's suspension bridge in the winter wind shakes. A lot. :)

Hope you enjoyed the snowy weekend!

Brooklyn update

It's been almost six months since I moved to Brooklyn (time flies, right?) and I have to admit: I'm mildly obsessed with my new 'hood. Case in point, Brooklyn Bridge Park. Matt and I have started our own ritual of sorts. Every Sunday evening, we take a stroll down to Brooklyn Bridge Park. There's something so peaceful and breathtaking about looking across the water at Manhattan. The city and it's busy-ness is right across the bridge, but somehow it feels a million miles away.  :)

This past weekend, we hit the park on Saturday with friends, and reserved our evening stroll for tonight—Matt's birthday!

Do you have a favorite neighborhood routine?

Between two bridges

Anyone who was in the city the past two days will agree: what a perfect weekend in New York! After two days spent eating frozen yogurt, slathering on sunscreen, and soaking up the sun, I found this awesome spot—right between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges—to relish the springtime breeze. I'm not sure which bridge is more beautiful, to be honest. The view of the two from Brooklyn Bridge Park puts the power and might of their architecture in perspective. Sitting between them on the rocky shore made me feel so small!

It's crucial to find a place to escape—away from the concrete—when the warm weather hits the city. I'd love to know: what's your favorite springtime spot in New York?
