Last night, a manicure seemed to be the only cure to what had previously been a very long day! Do you ever feel like you can't type fast enough when it comes to keeping up with emails, texting and work? My secret solution seems to be a fresh coat of polish. I always feel more put together when my nails are done! I'm happy to report that I've discovered my go-to nail color for fall. Lady Like by Essie is soft and pale, a neutral hue that still provides a subtle pop of a purple-y pink. What do you think? Do you like this shade? If not, what fall color are you planning to wear?
Have you seen the video above? Two New York filmmakers set scenes that show the impact of Hurricane Irene on New York to Debussy's "Clair de Lune". Definitely a gorgeous and poetic take on the weekend that the city shut down.
Have you ever thought about painting a portrait of a relationship based on the places you've dined together? That's exactly what this New Yorker story suggests doing, and I have to say, I love the idea. Mostly because it requires you to look back and focus on the individual moments you and another person have shared. Whether you remember the history of your dining experiences with your best friend, sister, parent or significant other, it's fun to think back to the conversations (and food!) you've had.
Are you safe and sound following Hurricane Irene? So strange to watch New York come to a stand-still. Thought I'd post a few pics to show how some friends and I weathered the storm. We started the day with brunch at the Ainesworth, and a mimosa toast to Irene. The tricky part was getting home after — no subway service at all!
As the winds became more blustery and the rain picked up, we decided it made sense to tape up our windows, just in case.
At long last, Matt had his chance! Since we were apartment-bound, he rented Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom so that I could watch it for the first time.
After the movie, the cooking began — Matt whipped up a delicious chicken dish, while I prepared the asparagus.
Finally, we broke out the scrabble. Despite many word challenges from my opponents — Erin, Brian and Matt — I actually went on to win the game. What did you do to pass the time during the storm? Hope everyone else stayed safe (and entertained) during Irene!
Wo0-hoo, happy Friday dear readers! How was your week? I hope it was an interesting one! I'm excited for the weekend, but I'm anticipating being majorly rained in with Hurricane Irene on her way. Makes for the perfect excuse to catch up on movies and reading though, right? I'm hoping to see Our Idiot Brother and finally page through the September issue of Vogue. Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
I'm in love with the family photo shoot above from Bleubird Vintage. The entire clan decided to celebrate the arrival of Frances, the pug, with lots of silly pics and poses. How cute! It definitely looks like this is one dog that better be ready for lots of love and hugs. :)
It kind of feels like the summer of Emma Stone, what with both The Help and Crazy Stupid Love arriving in theaters at the same time. But seriously, I'm on board. Ever since I saw her inEasy A last year, I have been so impressed by Emma and the films she's been a part of. In my opinion, she's three for three out of the movies above. What do you think — have you seen any of her films? (Via IMDB)
Have you seen the new column over at GOOD called "The Rules"? It's an illustrated guide to modern etiquette that offers hilarious advice on how to handle every day situations that come up. My favorite one so far is "The Rules of Flaking Out," pictured above. Check out the rest here.
The folks at Pottery Barn definitely got it right when they designed the Mercer Bathtub Caddy, pictured above. Doesn't it seem like the best way to relax after a long day at work? I'd say you get one of these, poor yourself a glass of wine, and draw a nice hot bath before diving into your book or magazine of the moment. Any other ideas for unwinding at the end of a busy day? Would love to hear your suggestions!

Happy Friday my dear readers! What a week — summer is flying by. This weekend is slightly action-packed, but all in a good way. I'm most excited for a mini-girls night out to not only see The Help, but get a manicure/pedicure too! Such a treat. What do you have planned for the next two days off? Something good I hope! Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
I'm curious — have you ever attempted to do your makeup on the subway? Yesterday morning, I was en route to work when a fellow passenger on the N train started to quickly (and efficiently) put her face on. I stared at her in complete awe of her talent — from her steady hand to her technique, I was beyond impressed. She even broke out her eyelash curler to curl her lashes while the train bounced all over the tracks. Do you ever do your makeup for work on the train? If so, what's your secret to getting it right?
Whether you're a fan of Glee or not, you'll agree — Kellen the mini-Warbler is too cute for words. I love the jacket, and the clear dedication to getting each and every dance move right. Thanks to Narrylikes for sharing this adorable clip!
Days like this remind me that I need to invest in a new pair of rain boots. How cute are the ones above from J.Crew? Called the Weatherby Rain Boot, they feature a sleek back zipper — perfect for easy on and off when you go from home to work or work to a night out on the town. And because I'm a girl that always prefers a splash of color, I love the salsa shade the best. What do you think? Any rainy day fashion survival tips to share?
Happy weekend dear readers! Did you have a nice week? I'm trying to savor the last few weeks of summer by doing some only-in-New-York things. My big plan is to make it to Governor's Island and do a bit of exploring. Have you ever been? I went in June to check out the Jazz Festival, but know there is so much more to see. Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
The new version of the 1984 classic Footloose hits theaters this fall. Judging from this side by side trailer comparison, what are your thoughts? Oh, and I mean besides the obvious: Kevin Bacon? Still so cute. :)
How delicious and refreshing does the ice cream bar pictured above look? Talk about the perfect summer treat, just in time for a hot and steamy August! I love the expressions on the kids' faces as they devour their cones, each one filled with their own selection of candy and fruit toppings. The raspberries and gummy bears would be my biggest weakness — the rainbow sprinkles too. What is your favorite ice cream topping?
Have any of you ever been to the Museum of the Moving Image out in Queens? On Sunday, I finally decided to make the trip. While we went to see the muppet exhibit called "Jim Henson's Fantastic World," we found ourselves staying to explore the rest of the museum too. My favorite part was the sound-proof booth on the second floor where you can re-dub the voice tracks for classic films like The Wizard of Oz and Some Like it Hot. But I also walked away with the notecards pictured above, designed by Jeffrey Metzner. So cute, right? Now, the real test — do you recognize the two films depicted above? :)
Don't you just love the wedding photos above? Apparently, it rained for the first half of Jess and TJ's Colorado ceremony, but the sun popped out just in time for this adorable pair to say 'I do!'. A rainbow on your wedding day? That seems like the start of 'happily ever after' to me!
Happy weekend dear readers! What do you have planned? I'm celebrating my good friend's engagement with a party (and champagne!). So happy for her and her hubby to be! How cute is the puppy above? Apparently, he's one little guy that loves the water. :) Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
I'm in love with every single one of the gorgeous photos found on The Glow, a site that offers a glimpse into the worlds of inspiring and fashionable moms. The prints above feature moms including — from top to bottom — Jeanann Williams, Lauren Moffatt, Ramya Giangola, and Meredith Kahn. Each shot is so playful and sweet! Do you have a favorite childhood moment that you shared with your mom? Were you lucky enough to catch it on film? :)
Tell me — are you someone that regularly gets your digital photos printed? If you're like me, this is one item that is always on my to-do list. I have thousands and thousands of photos, not only in iPhoto, but on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Shutterfly...the list goes on and on! As a result, I'm very intrigued by sites like PostalPix and Pictarine. PostalPix (displayed above) is an app that allows you to order digital prints straight from your iPhone. Snap a photo, and make a quick decision to order a hard copy of the image to be sent via snail mail to your home. With Pictarine, you can organize your digital photos from across the web so that they all live in the same place. I can feel my to-do list getting shorter by the minute!
