My dear readers, happy Friday! What do you have planned for this weekend? I'm hoping we see the end of this hot, humid air, and that fall officially arrives! I'm also hoping to check out the Atlantic Antic on Sunday in Brooklyn. Have you ever been? I will do my best to snap some pics while I'm there. Wishing each of you a lovely weekend ahead. Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
Last week, for brunch, we tried Vinegar Hill House in Brooklyn Heights. As you may have read before, some friends and I are trying to rotate neighborhoods each weekend and sample the best brunch spots in New York. Vinegar Hill House was a nice treat! After a brief wait (they don't take reservations), we were able to snag a table outside in the back. I had poached eggs with bacon and home fries — delicious! Now, a question for all of you egg-lovers: how do you like your eggs cooked? Scrambled? Sunny side up? Tell me — I'm curious!
Leave it to Elephantine — she found a way to make every girl's dream come true. How? By creating her own Jewelry of the Month club. Sign up online through Etsy and for six months, you will receive a stunning piece of jewelry — 3 necklaces, 2 pairs of earrings and 1 bracelet — in the mail each month. Wouldn't this make an incredible gift? Just think, you check your mail and mixed in with the bills and cards and magazines is a little black box containing a gold or silver surprise just for you. I'll say it again: this is a fantastic idea!
These adorable bear cubs are too cute for words! Caught wrestling with each other in Yosemite National Park as their mother (and other park-goers) looked on, they both seem oblivious to the attention they are attracting as they play. To them, it's just another day in the park. :)
Where was the last place you traveled to? If you're looking for ideas, spend some time browsing through Peggy Wong's travelogues on bluepoolroad. On European holiday, she visits France, Denmark, Spain and more, narrating her journey through breathtaking photos of her experiences abroad. In case you're wondering, Paris is next on my list. With a new job, my vacation plans got delayed, but my next travel adventure is not too far away! Tell me — what destination are you planning to visit next?
What do you think of the vintage looks in Alexa Chung's new fall collection for Madewell? Personally, I'm obsessed. I love the black and white checked dress (called the Dolores) the most, but I think that each look is appropriate for work and the weekend. Do you agree? Let me know your thoughts after taking a peek at Alexa's entire collection here. I'd love to know which look you love!
It's official — fall has arrived! There's nothing better than this time of year in New York. I love the crisp, dry air, the foliage in Central Park, and — of course — the fashion. Although this rain needs to go away soon! :) What do you have planned for the weekend? I'm hoping to check out this exhibit at the MoMA. I also really want to see MoneyBall. Are you a Brad Pitt fan? Are you going to see that film? Wishing each of you a lovely and relaxing weekend ahead. Here, to get it started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
Check it out — it's a new take on Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" from father/daughter team Jorge and Alexa Narvaez. What an adorable duet! Yes, I love this song, but this little girl's passion and talent for performance is tough to beat. What do you think?
Now that fall has arrived, I'm happy to say that my brunch tour of New York has resumed! I've blogged about it before — every weekend, a couple of friends and I rotate and choose different brunch spots around the city that we want to try. This past weekend, our choice was Freemans on the Lower East Side. Have you been? I've only gone in for dinner and cocktails before, but never for brunch. It was delicious! What are your favorite brunch spots in New York? I need to add to my list of places to try!
How adorable are these cardigans from Comme des Garcons? Currently available at J.Crew, the CDG designs were created in collaboration with New York-based graphic artist Filip Pagowski and Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo. I love the heart logos with the peek-a-boo eyes. So cute!
Another week gone by? I have no idea how that happened! Nonetheless, happy Friday my dear readers! How was your week? It is suddenly quite cold in New York — looks like fall has officially arrived. This weekend, I have big plans to check out the Brooklyn Book Festival with Matt and help him spread the word about his new website, Critics & Writers. If you haven't signed up, you should! :) Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
This might be one of the cutest hats I've ever seen. I love the pink color and the adorable little ears. :) If only it came in my size! What do you think — do you love it too?
Consider it a birthday treat to myself! Over Labor Day weekend, I celebrated turning another year older by splurging on the Kate Spade bag pictured above. No, I didn't go for the adorable night owl bag (also pictured), but that's mostly because I didn't see it in the store! :) Instead, I fell in love with the Cobble Hill Penny. The charcoal gray color is the perfect fit for fall, don't you think?
What do you remember most about your high school prom? Such a milestone occasion at the age of 17! Tonight, I get to re-live this magical moment, thanks to a very clever fundraiser hosted by 826NYC. But "The Prom You Were Promised" isn't your average corsage- and taffeta-wearing night out. In fact, this prom is hosted by SNL's Jason Sudeikis and DJed by Yeasayer, BAIO from Vampire Weekend and more. What a great excuse to get all gussied up! Even better? It's for a good cause — funds raised by 826NYC are dedicated to helping students ages 6 to 18 with their creative writing skills.
While there are many new plays that I can't wait to check out on Broadway this fall, I'm especially looking forward to Relatively Speaking, a show featuring three one-act comedies, all directed by John Turturro. Sure, Ethan Coen and Elaine May are in the mix, but I'm most excited about Woody Allen's "Honeymoon Motel". Previews of the show begin September 20th, which means I need to get my tickets now. What about you — are there any Broadway shows that you are planning to see?
Happy Friday dear readers! Whew, we made it. :) What a week, right? It's always tough to get back into the post-Labor Day groove. What do you have planned for the weekend? My good friends Christian and Shalah are hosting a dinner party on Saturday — I'm so excited to see them and catch up. It doesn't hurt that Shalah is an amazing cook! Here, to get your weekend started right, a few happy posts from around the web:
Do you consider yourself to be an organized person? I definitely tend to be more organized than not — I feel better going to sleep when things have been properly prepped and arranged for the day ahead, as crazy as that may sound! This may be why I love the images above. Quite an interesting take on organization and creating a method to the madness. :)
Not too long ago, I found myself out at Caffe Vivaldi in the West Village on a random Saturday night in New York. I was looking for good wine and good music, and clearly, I had come to the right place. By pure coincidence, I caught a performance by Jeannine Hebb, whose debut music video can be watched above. I love the catchy rhythm and piano accompaniment of 'Call Him Out', one of Hebb's many original tunes. What do you think? Are you a fan of the song?
Would you ever choose a city hall wedding over a more elaborate affair? That's exactly what the couple above did, and I have to admit, I think it's an incredibly romantic idea. It just seems so personal and sweet — an intimate moment that only the two of you share. Of course, that doesn't mean that these two didn't celebrate their marriage with friends. That very same weekend, they threw a huge Brooklyn partywith everyone they knewto toast getting hitched.
Here's another famous couple who got married at New York's City Hall. I'd love to know — what are your thoughts on the idea?
