So, today is my birthday! To celebrate, I had the perfect (early) gift. A weekend in my favorite place in the world: Maine. Matt and I headed up there for Labor Day weekend to hit the beach, go fishing, read and relax. We had great weather and great company—so many of my cousins and their kids ended up making the trek north for the weekend, too. It was so much fun to see everyone and catch up on each other's lives.
Also, has anyone else played cornhole? This was only my second or third time. My dad built the boards above himself so that everyone in the family could play. On Saturday night, we had a family BBQ—and a high stakes tournament! The great part is the game is fun for all ages. For example, when the kids stepped up to throw, we had them take 10 giant steps forward to make things fair against the adults. :)
Did you have a nice long weekend? What did you do?

Theater Page: Almost, Maine
Have you heard about Almost, Maine? It's a delightful romantic comedy written by John Cariani and now playing in the West Village at the (fake snow-covered) Gym at Judson. Filled with sweet, mostly 2-person vignettes, the play illustrates the funny, awkward, cheesy, charming, and sometimes heartbreaking parts of love. The four actors in this performance (including the writer himself) cover 19 different roles, beautifully and seamlessly. And with Maine as it's backdrop, this show feels like winter comfort food.
I loved every hilarious reference to the state I adore. I highly recommend this show!
PS—More Maine here, here, here and here.

The great outdoors
Two weeks ago, I had the chance to escape to Maine for my cousin's wedding—right at the peak of foliage season. I wanted to post a few scenic snaps from the weekend. It was absolutely breathtaking! There's something so therapeutic about time in nature. It's something that I always miss living in New York.
More pics from the wedding weekend can be found here.

Wedding season!
Remember last year when I had seven weddings? This fall, I only have two, but I'm so excited for both! The first one is in Montauk, the second one is in Maine—I can't wait to get away, toast the brides and grooms, and relax. :)
Do you have any weddings this fall? What are you planning to wear?

The modern way to camp
As a kid, I spent many a vacation camping out in Maine. I loved it — the ruggedness of the outdoors, the peacefulness of nature, the s'mores. :) Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon the Hotel Huettenpalast in Berlin. During your stay, choose from a regular room or stay in one of their indoor caravans or cabins (pictured above). It's camping-meets childhood fort-meets art, don't you think? The hotel even brands itself around a Maurice Sendak quote: "There has to be more to life than having everything." That's camping in a nutshell in my book. So cool!

Maine getaway
My dear readers, I'm back! Took a few days off for a long weekend in Maine — an amazingly refreshing getaway before I start my new job this week. I haven't been to Popham Beach in five years, something I find hard to believe considering I used to spend the majority of my summer weekends there as a kid. I got in lots of beach time and time with my family including my sister Alyssa who was visiting from the West Coast! Above are a few shots from the trip. Hope you enjoy!
