The weekend is here!

Happy weekend, my dear readers! This week flew by. What are your Saturday-Sunday plans? As the photo indicates above, I'm skipping town — off to Boston to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday. Such a milestone occasion! It's a quick trip, but I can't wait. Another exciting part of the weekend? The season 5 premiere of Mad Men. Paris vs. New York

I've blogged about Paris vs. New York before, but this print was too good to not include. I love the creative comparison between two — equally cosmopolitan — cities. It's also a great reminder: Mad Men is coming back soon!

My Christmas wish list

It's may feel balmy in New York, but it took an MTA bus ride past the Holiday Market at Columbus Circle to remind me — the Christmas season has arrived! It got me thinking about my wish list for this year (and early next!). Right now, there are three things I want:

1) A red dress. Who knew it would be so hard to find the perfect one? 

2) More Mad Men. This past weekend, AMC started re-playing episodes from Seasons 1 through 4, just the reminder I needed that the premiere of Season 5 is coming soon!

3) A vacation in Paris. This trip is tentatively scheduled for early in the new year. Oh la la!

Behind the Scenes of Mad Men

Can we say Mad Men withdrawal? I can't believe this Sunday is the season four finale of the show. Where does the time go? In honor of this season's conclusion, I thought I'd revisit Rolling Stone's photo tribute to the show from September. Such great pics!

Emmys in review

Is it just me or is TV getting a bit more exciting than film these days? The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night were filled with surprises, great speeches, and a Glee-inspired opening number that brought the house down. Here, a few of my favorite moments from the show, and a shout-out to Modern Family for one of the best intro skits ever!

 A well-deserved Emmy win for Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet, Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.

A super-psyched Jon Hamm escorting Betty White. Their dance lessons in the opening number was one of the show's best parts!

 Archie Panjabi takes it home for The Good Wife.

In one of the night's more notable upsets, Modern Family beats Glee for Outstanding Comedy Series.

 And Mad Men wins it for Outstanding Drama Series! (How grown up does Susie Draper look?!)

Guests arrive for the 2009 Golden Globes.

Of all the awards shows, the Golden Globes are my favorite. I think I first fell in love around the time Christine Lahti was in the bathroom when her name was called. It was the same year Titanic won and Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson exchanged loving, yet sarcastic compliments over their Best Actress/Best Actor wins. Blame the relaxed atmosphere, blame the merging of TV and film stars in the same room, blame the booze — it's seemingly impossible to have a bad time at the Globes.

This year should be no exception. In particular for me because so many of the stars/shows/movies I adore are nominated! My picks? In a perfect world, I’d love to see Up in the Air win for Best Picture (Drama). I also think Emily Blunt is deserving of the Best Actress (Drama) award for The Young Victoria. I love Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Courteney Cox. The Mad Men cast should clean up as usual, although I’d love to see Julianna Margulies take home the Best Actress award for The Good Wife. Finally, Glee! Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical? It's a perfect fit!
