Monogram necklace

Sad story: Last year, when Matt and I went to Paris, I lost the "R" necklace he gave me for Christmas a couple of years back (the same one Rachel Berry wears on Glee). I have no idea how it happened—I meticulously went room by room after packing our bags to leave our Airbnb apartment, just to make sure I didn't leave any jewelry behind! But, alas, the necklace was nowhere to be found when we got back to New York. 

Fast forward a year, and after far too many "If only I had my 'R' necklace..." moments, I decided it was worth re-ordering. I received my new necklace this past week—and I love it! There's something so special about a monogrammed piece of jewelry. It becomes a piece of your identity (remember the SATC scene when Carrie found the necklace she thought she'd lost?), and one you can't live without.

Rumour has it

Despite all the delightful and innovative a cappella content on TV these days, I haven't posted much about one of my favorite subjects as of late. After seeing last week's episode of Glee and this impressive mash-up of Adele's Rumour Has It with Someone Like You, I knew that all had to change. Even though the show has gotten a bit preachy for my taste, they still know how to bring it with ballads like these! What did you think of this performance? Are you still keeping up with the show now that it's in it's third season?

More A Cappella: The Beelzebubs on Glee

A world without a cappella — where's the fun in that? Last week's episode of Glee is a true testament to this fact. When Kurt decides to spy on the New Directions' competition, he checks out the Dalton Academy Warblers, played by the Beelzebubs from Tufts University in Boston. I love the Beelzebubs. Hello? Did you see NBC's The Sing-Off last year? They were a total hit. Here they are in Glee singing their rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." Talk about inspiration for other a cappella groups out there. The Wheatones, the Gentlemen Callers, the Whims — you're next!

Emmys in review

Is it just me or is TV getting a bit more exciting than film these days? The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night were filled with surprises, great speeches, and a Glee-inspired opening number that brought the house down. Here, a few of my favorite moments from the show, and a shout-out to Modern Family for one of the best intro skits ever!

 A well-deserved Emmy win for Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet, Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.

A super-psyched Jon Hamm escorting Betty White. Their dance lessons in the opening number was one of the show's best parts!

 Archie Panjabi takes it home for The Good Wife.

In one of the night's more notable upsets, Modern Family beats Glee for Outstanding Comedy Series.

 And Mad Men wins it for Outstanding Drama Series! (How grown up does Susie Draper look?!) 

"I was in the bathroom, Mom!"

Guests arrive for the 2009 Golden Globes.

Of all the awards shows, the Golden Globes are my favorite. I think I first fell in love around the time Christine Lahti was in the bathroom when her name was called. It was the same year Titanic won and Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson exchanged loving, yet sarcastic compliments over their Best Actress/Best Actor wins. Blame the relaxed atmosphere, blame the merging of TV and film stars in the same room, blame the booze — it's seemingly impossible to have a bad time at the Globes.

This year should be no exception. In particular for me because so many of the stars/shows/movies I adore are nominated! My picks? In a perfect world, I’d love to see Up in the Air win for Best Picture (Drama). I also think Emily Blunt is deserving of the Best Actress (Drama) award for The Young Victoria. I love Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick and Courteney Cox. The Mad Men cast should clean up as usual, although I’d love to see Julianna Margulies take home the Best Actress award for The Good Wife. Finally, Glee! Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical? It's a perfect fit!

Don’t Rain on My Parade

Blame the invention of DVR — I finally watched the fall finale of Glee Monday night, almost a week late since it aired last Wednesday. But tacking on the extra few days only added to the build up. What an episode! I was so happy to see so many story lines resolved. And the singing! Rachel Berry’s version of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” was inspiring. It makes me miss my days singing a cappella oh-so-very-much. Our group never took on Barbra, but Aretha, Madonna, Bob Dylan — they all made our set list.
