Do you ever play card games? It's funny: I always laugh at how many decks of cards we have in our apartment. At last count, we have eight packs in the junk drawer in our kitchen! How we've managed to accumulate so many is something I'll never understand. ;)
But actually, a pack of playing cards is an awesome thing to have on hand. We used them on the train through Italy, in Maine last weekend to play cribbage, and have pulled them out for game night with friends, too.
So, not that I need another pack, but how cute are the hand-painted cards above? The king and queen look so dapper, right? This would totally become my go-to set.

I popped by the Greenpointers Valentine's Market on Sunday, and came across these adorable cards from Loveless Designs. Each card is pen and ink, and then hand-colored with markers by the artist (Bethany Robertson) herself. I thought it was such a sweet way to send spontaneous snail mail greetings to friends.
On that note, you should know: I've added a budget line for card shopping in New York. My addiction is getting worse! On a more positive note: Friends, check your mailboxes! :)

Yes—Valentine's Day is still a more than a month away, but during the snowstorm this past weekend, I made a trip to one of my favorite Brooklyn card shops, and decided to get a little crafty! The main reason: Have you heard about heat embossing? It's what gives cards that elegant, raised, dimensional effect. All you need is a stamp of your choice (I chose this one), embossing powder, this heat tool, and watermark ink. You stamp your design onto the card, cover it with powder, dust it off (you can save and reuse the excess powder so it lasts a long time), and then seal with the heat embossing tool. Voila! A beautiful handmade card to give to your sweetie, your sister, or your friends. :)
