This year, on January 1, I quit the gym. This was no easy feat. I stopped in, I asked for the manager (who was unavailable), I called, I emailed, I went back the next day. When I finally sat down with the guy, visions of the episode of Friends where Chandler tries to quit (and has to bring Ross for moral support) flashed in my head. But I did it! And in 30 days—the notice that's required—I will be out! ;)
Don't get me wrong: It's not that I don't want to work out/get in shape/etc. It's just that I have been in denial about a strategy that isn't working for me: my gym membership. Lately, I've been way more motivated to run outdoors, throw on a workout DVD, or take a yoga class. Plus, add extra long hours at the office to the equation and I'm lucky if I get to the gym before 9 p.m.
So: It's 2015! I'm taking a new approach. I'm also facing reality. If the temperatures drop (like they're supposed to this week), I'm going to try out the gym at my office. Convenience is key!
What are your resolutions for 2015?

January Page: A toast!
Happy New Year! I'm still in that phase where it's hard to remember to write the date as 2014. :) It's been quite a chilly start to January, but I always love how cozy this time of year feels. It's sort of fun to just hibernate indoors (although I know by March, I'll be ready to get outdoors again!). What are your favorite things about this month? I love the feeling of a fresh start, winter hats and coats, and also the thought that, in just one week, we'll get to watch Amy Poehler and Tina Fey host the Golden Globes again!
I also always think carefully about my resolutions this time of year. My goals this year are:
1) To plan more frequent phone chats with friends and family (texting is great and all, but there's nothing as fun as catching up and laughing over the phone!).
2) To practice yoga at least once a week. There is an awesome studio in my neighborhood, and I love going, but need to make it a routine.
3) To write more—for myself. I have lots of ideas swirling around, but I need to actually block off time to put the pen to the paper. :)
4) To continue to work on my French. My vacation to France and Italy is just five months away!
What are you excited about this month—and in the year ahead?

January Page: A toast!
This is a little bit belated, but happy January, my darling readers! The holidays came and went so fast—I was home in Massachusetts, relaxing and catching up with family and friends. We even got snow! :) And now, I have some big news for the new year: I'm moving to Brooklyn! It's definitely an exciting change, but hard to believe I'm leaving the Manhattan apartment that I've lived in for the past five years. That said, I can't wait to move to a new neighborhood, and one that not only has a Trader Joe's, but Brooklyn Bridge Park, too. There's no better place to see the Manhattan skyline at night!
As 2013 begins, I gave some thought to a few things I'm looking forward to this year:
1) Settling into my new apartment—and a new borough, too.
2) Running another 10K in Central Park.
3) Visiting my little sister in California, and hopefully planning another trip across the pond.
4) Taking French lessons.
5) Finding even more time to write!
What are you looking forward to the most this year? January might just be one of my favorite months—there's nothing better than a fresh start. Plus, you get to wear cozy (and cute) winter hats, play in the snow, and fantasize about a warm weather escape. So, cheers to a wonderful and bright new year ahead—and thank you for continuing to read and keep up with my blog!

In caffeine we trust
So I know I said I wasn't going to talk about 2012 resolutions, but the poster above made me think: how much coffee do you drink every day? I've always been more of a diet coke drinker than coffee, and in 2012, one of my goals is to break this habit and officially make the switch. Diet coke can't be good for me every day, and it's time to make a change!
Are you a coffee drinker? Any advice or favorite brews to share?

Ringing in 2012!
It's official — happy 2012 my dear readers! :) What a festive holiday season it was! I thought I would post a couple of pics from New Year's Eve. You might recognize my date — this is the fifth NYE we have spent together. So hard to believe! Instead of posting my resolutions, I thought I would make a short list of a few things I'm looking forward to this year:
Visiting Paris (and Niagara Falls and Ireland).
Turning 30!
Celebrating my fourth year in New York.
Trying this restaurant. And going back to this one (and this one).
Running another race in Central Park.
The return of Don Draper.
Writing more and expanding my blog.
