Oscar predictions

I don't know about you, but every year, I get so excited for the Oscars. I love the fashion, I love the speeches, I love the clips from the films—all of it. But this year, I can't decide which films should win, especially for the best actress and best supporting actress categories. The competition is steep! I'm going to go on the record and say that I think that Cate Blanchett should get Best Actress for Blue Jasmine (she basically played 5 different roles in one, with a different personality in every scene), but I also loved Amy Adams in American Hustle (The accent! The clothes!) and Sandra Bullock in Gravity (to basically be alone in a film for 90 minutes and be that captivating is beyond impressive). 

I'm feeling fairly certain that Jennifer Lawrence should get the Academy Award for American Hustle. I was blown away by her performance in that movie.

There are still a couple of films I haven't seen (I'm hoping to squeeze them in this week), so please let me know if I'm leaving anyone remarkable out. Either way, I'd love to know your picks!

Oscars recap

The Academy Awards: Let's discuss. :) The five ladies above—Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston, Amy Adams and Halle Berry—scored my vote for best dressed.  

Quvenzhané Wallace stole the show with her cutie personality. 

How elegant was Charlize Theron during Seth MacFarlane's opening monologue? 

And Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Radcliffe were a hoot.

Plus, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner might be the sweetest couple ever (something I've always believed). Did you read about their pre-awards show mayhem? Plus, way to go Ben!

Last, two words: Jennifer Hudson. That girl can sing.

Ryan and George

I had the best Friday night ever this weekend: a homemade Italian dinner, a bottle of delicious red wine, and an on-demand rental of The Ides of March. Have you seen it? With George Clooney and Ryan Gosling sharing the screen, I didn't know who to focus on first! The movie was good, too — I'm curious to see if it wins for Best Adapted Screenplay, a tough call since it's up against Moneyball, The Descendants, and Hugo. Regardless, I can't get enough of the George/Ryan love. Too cute!

This one's for Christopher Plummer

In my opinion, he should have won an Oscar many moons ago, but if Christopher Plummer wins for the first time with Beginners, it's exceptionally well-deserved.

My Awards Season Short List

George Clooney and Vera Farmiga in Up in the Air.

Count it — I have actually now seen Up in the Air three times in the theater. All before 2010 even hit. It was unintentional, really. I just happened to hang with people that all really had their hearts set on seeing the film. It’s a good one, so who am I to deprive them of that experience? The truth is, each time I watched it, I loved it more and more. Sure, George Clooney is easy on the eyes, but Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick are the film’s scene-stealers.

But now, it's the New Year. I have to stop dilly-dallying and play catch up on all the other films I have yet to see. After all, awards season is upon us and there are quite a few films with Oscar potential! Next on my list? Avatar, An Education, It’s Complicated, Nine and The Blind Side. Yeah, it’s a lot, but I think I can do it. Any other recommendations? Send 'em my way!
